Milton Daniel Hall

Milton Daniel Hall is a freshman dormitory at Texas Christian University that I was tasked to redesign. Inspired by autonomy, my redesign is meant to give new students the freedom of choice between socialization and study. Being a new student in college can be extremely overwhelming. Giving those students a sense of choice and control over their environment can help ease stress.

Lounge

This is the view of the lobby from the main entrance. This is an environment where students can sit conformably and chat with a new friend or sit down for individual or group study sessions.

This is a closer view of the two-person seating available in the central region of the lobby. Couches and armchairs are utilized to promote comfort, mimicking a more traditional residential space, giving students a sense of home.

This is a view of the nook seating, which is available on both the east and west walls of the lobby. Here, students can have a space to themselves. There is a work desk close by for those who may need to set their stuff down. There is multi-level lighting, as seen in this view, and throughout the space. Stark light can be uncomfortable and harsh.

This is a view of the back portion of the lobby, this space is meant for group congregation. In addition, there is tabletop seating on the left and right for those who want to do more serious work.
