Veteran Project
Reflect is a socially sustainable veteran living community. Inspired by the reflection of light off the water, this complex is meant to promote social sustainability and mental reflection to help veterans reintegrate into civilian life as smoothly as possible.
Facade Inspiration
Mindfulness is the priority when designing this project. Because this is a space for those who are potentially battling post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, and loneliness, amongst many other challenges, there are particular design solutions to help combat these obstacles. Inspired by the reflection of light off the water, this complex is meant to promote social sustainability and mental reflection to help veterans reintegrate into civilian life as smoothly as possible. Above is my design concept and facade sketch. The sketch to the far right would be the front of every apartment unit.

Material Selections
The material selection is especially important for this design due to challenges those who have been in the military face. Because of this, I incorporated carpeting and wood to reduce noise in addition to including a 2 inch water oasis in the outdoor areas to increase mental stability and calmness
Reception
The user’s first view of the complex, Reflect, is the front desk. Pulling from the inspiration image shown previously, a fluted back wall with navy and royal blue tile, accented with gold mimics not only water and its movement but also the light that is reflected from its surface.
Dining Area
This is the public dining area. This area can be found on the right side of the complex. This public area is meant to promote social interaction. Additionally, there is seating on both sides of the entrance to each apartment.
